The City of Kingman is a community located in northwestern Arizona on the Colorado Plateau. As Kingman is a community rooted in a rich history, including being a site of pre-Colombian trade routes, serving as a U.S. Army Air Force training base during World War II, and sitting at the heart of Historic Route 66, the City is seeking innovative ways to foster and celebrate the arts in public places throughout the community. The City has many existing art installations, murals, galleries, and programs, however, Kingman is interested in formalizing the process for City-supported public art efforts. To explore strategies and opportunities for supporting art in public places, the City of Kingman will collaborate with Master of Urban and Environmental Planning (MUEP) students participating in the ASU Project Cities program. MUEP students will facilitate a peer community assessment and develop and gather community feedback through a community arts preference assessment and workshop to inform a playbook for art in public places processes and programming.

The City of Tolleson, located in the West Valley of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, is committed to fostering an inclusive, safe, and affordable community for its more than 7,000 residents and thousands of daily commuter and industry visitors. As the City has reached 90% build-out, and simultaneously the General Plan 2024 has reached its maturity, Tolleson staff and leadership are interested in exploring new opportunities to plan for Tolleson to continue to be a thriving community for people of all ages. To advance these efforts, a team of Master of Urban and Environmental Planning (MUEP) Planning Workshop students will collaborate with the City of Tolleson staff, leadership, and community members through the ASU Project Cities program to explore best practices to plan for aging in place to inform a supplemental General Plan chapter focused on implementing recommended strategies throughout the City now and into the future.
