Whipple Dam State Park administration in Huntingdon County is interested in exploring solar for a new facility as the state park system aims for carbon neutrality. As the state park is surrounded by forest, this project primarily focuses on siting building for optimal energy generation while being conveniently located for users.

Feasibility Analysis for Recommendation of Solar Array Installations at South Fayette School District /projects/feasibility-analysis-for-recommendation-of-solar-array-installations-at-south-fayette-school-district/ Fri, 25 Jul 2025 19:54:43 +0000 /?post_type=projects&p=19481 Read More... from Feasibility Analysis for Recommendation of Solar Array Installations at South Fayette School District

South Fayette Township School District consists of one large campus that accommodates all district buildings available for expansion and other uses. The District would like to have its buildings reflect its progressive stance and also explores educational opportunities from solar applications. Through this project, students worked with the District to make a more informed decisions and explored 2 options, between ground-mount solar and rooftop solar. Recommendations may also include canopy solar over parking lots to present the full spectrum of solar possibilities.

Solar Feasibility for the City of Hazleton Police Department /projects/solar-feasibility-for-the-city-of-hazleton-police-department/ Fri, 25 Jul 2025 19:49:25 +0000 /?post_type=projects&p=19477 Read More... from Solar Feasibility for the City of Hazleton Police Department

The Hazleton Police Department moved to a new facility that used to be a former school in City of Hazleton. The school building has received energy efficient upgrades and the City administration is interested in exploring solar for and adjacent to the building to offset its energy use. Students explored the feasibility of rooftop solar and solar canopies over parking lot. In addition, the students also considered energy generation offset the station’s needs and consider nearby City Hall’s energy consumption in case of excess.

Solar Feasibility Analysis for State College Borough /projects/solar-feasibility-analysis-for-state-college-borough/ Tue, 24 Jun 2025 21:09:00 +0000 /?post_type=projects&p=20798 Read More... from Solar Feasibility Analysis for State College Borough

The State College Borough owns a large area of land adjacent to its composting operation, other commercial operations and just south of I-99. It is assumed that this area will not be developed for residential purposes and therefore may provide an ideal site for ground mount solar. This project should include a detailed analysis if the site, maximum capacity for solar and how it may supplement energy use by the borough. This consideration may have to include recommendations for co-locating certain municipal operations on the site as it is believed that the site is beyond the distance usually allotted for solar to offset energy use. The project should therefore highlight limitations and opportunities of solar at this site.

State College would also like to explore how to best utilize small lots for solar. The first lot is a circular, slightly raised site at Waupelani Dr and Aiken Place. The site is maintained by the Borough and surrounded by small single family homes. The appearance of solar at this site will be of utmost concern to adjacent residents and students should consider how to best mitigate the visual appearance of solar. The second lot is off University Drive adjacent to a fast-food establishment and the waste water treatment plan. Both sites are confronted with the overall question of cost versus utility. These explorations are critical as small size lots maybe frequent opportunities if solar is feasible.
