Master’s students in City Planning and Urban Affairs will collaborate with the New Bedford Economic Development
Council to help expand plans to develop the downtown Quest Center District into a campus-like setting for start-up
activity and artist housing/studio space. Students will receive firsthand planning experience by developing a vision for
a vibrant and productive mixed-use district.

Using Open Data to for Cross-City Comparisons on Key Metrics

Undergraduate economics students will use the City’s new open data portal to compare Chelsea with other cities in the state on various data points, including crime, housing, and opioid overdoses. This City of Chelsea will use this information to better understand how it’s performing in relation to peer cities on key indicators.

Innovating Solutions to Public Health Priorities

(such as air pollution and opioid addiction) by innovating program and policy solutions in a hack-a-thon style project.

Surveying Residents’ Experiences with Airplane Noise

impact(s) of noise pollution from nearby Logan Airport. The Town will use the survey tool as a guide in collecting data
on how the noise from low-flying airplanes impacts residents’ quality of life.

Designing a Community Feedback Survey on City Service Delivery

Undergraduate political science students will design, implement, and analyze a public feedback survey of Providence residents asking them to evaluate their perceived access to city services, and the quality of these services (e.g., trash removal, sidewalk repair, constituent service requests). Enhancing the City Budget Website
